A working quartz mine in the Ouachitas.
Pine Ridge Crystals is a quartz mine in the mountains just outside Oden, Arkansas, with quartz veins found all across the property. The crystals come out of the ground the way the mountain grew them: clear points, clusters still on matrix, and the occasional piece that stops you in your tracks.
Montgomery County sits in the middle of the Ouachita quartz belt, and Arkansas quartz from this area has been prized by collectors for generations.

Water-clear points
Single points and clusters clear enough to read through, the classic Arkansas quartz the Ouachitas are known for.
Natural smoky quartz
Points with natural smoky color, from light tan to deep brown, some with phantoms inside.
Pyrite
Large pyrite specimens that turn up in the quartz matrix alongside the crystals.
Unusual growth forms
Odd formations like healed points, where a broken tip regrew and fused back onto the crystal.

Some map apps stop short when you search the street address. The mine is near the far east end of Ryan Rd, about 2.5 to 3 miles down, almost to the dead end. If you haven't reached the mine gate yet, keep driving. You can't miss it.
